Area Woman Generously Pretends to Pay For Own Meal on Date

LOS ANGELES – Treading the line between being a freeloader and asserting herself as a modern, independent woman, area woman Victoria Mullen generously pretended as if she’d pay for her own meal on a date Saturday night with boyfriend Matthew Finley at upscale restaurant Cipriani.

Reporters learned the incident took place moments after the check was placed on the table. Ms Mullen graciously made her boyfriend believe she’d finally pay for her portion of the bill this time by timidly reaching for the check, saying “It’s fine, honey. You don’t have to.”

“It was a bit nerve-wracking,” Ms Mullen told reporters. “Pretending like you’ll pay for your own meal is a huge gamble for any girl, even when on a date with your boyfriend. Luckily, my boyfriend’s not a cheapskate who’d refuse to pay for me.”

With her boyfriend having ponied up for yet another date, Ms Mullen revealed that she’d be splurging on a gorgeous pair of Vera Wang heels that she’s wanted for – like – ever.

When asked about the situation, Mr Finley told reporters, “I am so blessed to have a girlfriend who selflessly pretends she’s willing to contribute financially to our relationship in a meaningful way.”

“The awkwardness and tension created when she sheepishly reaches for the bill knowing full well she has no intention of paying for herself is so adorable. I really don’t deserve her,” Mr Finley stated as he booked a cab so the couple could go to the movies.
